Document Attestation in India


Document attestation is a step by step procedure of an original document verification from the respective country’s embassy. 
The detailed procedure for document attestation is elaborated as below
  • Regional Level: It is the first step of the document attestation. In this, the original documents or certificates get verified as per its categories such as notary for personal documents or educational, university for educational documents and chamber of commerce for commercial documents.
  • State Government: It is the second step of the Attestation process. The verification of documents/certificates from the state is carried out by three different organizations as per the requirement of the document type. These organizations are the State Home Department (SHD), Human Resource Department (HRD), & the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM).
  • MEA Stamp: The Ministry of External Affairs in which a stamp is applied behind the original document. MEA is the central department that deals with the foreign matters of the particular country & elect a minister every half-decade.
  • Embassy Attestation: It is the final step of the certification for most nations after the Ministry of External Affairs.
